The Iliad area is underlain by marine sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group intruded by Triassic to Jurassic dioritic rock of the John Peaks Stock or Unuk Meta-Diorite.

In 2018, mapping and prospecting work at the Iliad target by Metallus Resources revealed a massive diorite stock that was locally gossanous. The diorite stock is characterized by coarse-grained textures with quartz-sericite-pyrite and chlorite alteration assemblages. Metallus reported that, "a soil line traverse was conducted which resulted in one sample being anomalous - yielding 0.46 gram per tonne gold (https://metallisresources.com/regional-targets/#1550794578710-03669525-f2db)." It is assumed that this was a rock sample and not a soil sample.

Later in the 2018 field season, VTEM was flown over the eastern edge of the Kirkham property and revealed a distinctive sub-circular magnetic anomaly surrounded by magnetic low. The gossans observed by Metallus workers during visual reconnaissance from a helicopter were reported to correlate with the magnetic lows (magnetite destructive) and a distinct conductive anomaly near the Harrymel creek. Two historic MINFILE occurrences North Fork (104B 226) and Illiad 4 (104B 230) were also covered by the new 500 metre by 500 metre VTEM anomaly. Metallus indicated that the area warranted detailed mapping, prospecting and sampling to determine the nature of the gossan coincident with the resistivity and concentric zonation of magnetic high-low signature at the Iliad target.

See Mount Dunn (104B 079) and other Kirkham prospect for further geological and historical details.
